The Snapdragon 800 has been a very successful processor for Qualcomm, powering most of today’s high end phones such as the LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (LTE) and Nexus 5. Qualcomm has just announced the successor to the S800 – the Snapdragon 805. The S805 is designed primarily to bring 4K video capture and playback, and Ultra HD support.
The specifications are:
- Krait 450 quad-core CPU @ 2.5GHz
- Memory bandwidth support of up to 25.6GB/second
- Ultra HD support with wireless output to HDTV
- Adreno 420 GPU
- 2-stream dual-band Qualcomm VIVE 802.11 a/c Wi-Fi for 4K wireless streaming
- Support for Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) for video post processing
- Enhanced dual camera Image Signal Processors (ISPs) for sharper, higher resolution photos in low light and camera speed
Executive Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies, Murthy Renduchintala said:
“Using a smartphone or tablet powered by Snapdragon 805 processor is like having an UltraHD home theater in your pocket, with 4K video, imaging and graphics, all built for mobile…We’re delivering the mobile industry’s first truly end-to-end Ultra HD solution, and coupled with our industry leading Gobi LTE modems and RF transceivers, streaming and watching content at 4K resolution will finally be possible.”
The new Adreno 420 GPU is 40% more powerful than the Adreno 330 in the current Snapdragon 800, and the memory bandwidth in the Krait 450 is almost double the bandwidth in the Krait 400 (S800). You can read more about the features of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 on the Qualcomm blog here.
The S805 is expected to start arriving in flagship devices in the first half of next year.

Apple is laughing. It’s still not the 64-Bit ARMv8-A
Yer Apple is gagging its self losing market share everyday. Having 64Bit is useless until we have phones with 4GB+ Im thinking it will be 2015 before we see that.
Exactly, and even its going to be pretty much useless in 99% of everyday activities. Just another selling point.
I can hear Apple fans carrying on about the 64-bit. But will this be like the 64-bit PC revolution ? Do the apps need to support 64-bit before it can take advantage of the performance provided by 64-bit ? If yes, then 64-bit O/S is not going to achieve a lot in the near future.
Can’t wait to see the first devices coming out with the 805. I assume Samsung will be one of the first.
