It’s a little off-topic (ok, a lot), but bear with us. One of our friends whom you all may know from regular appearances on the Podcast – Terrence Huynh from TechGeek.com.au – is involved in a great initiative involving students from the University of Melbourne and Monash University, who have teamed up for a hackathon they’ve dubbed UNIHACK Melbourne.
UNIHACK will see the IT Clubs from the two universities come togehter to compete in a hackathon designed for Uni and TAFE students. The hackathon will run on Friday August 8 – Saturday August 9, with a presentation from teams competing on the Monday straight after. The event will be held at York Butter Factory – a co-working space in the Melbourne CBD and is open to all university undergraduate and TAFE students in Victoria.
The hackathon will give the students competing 24 hours to build an app or prototype for the platform of their choice, which incorporates the theme of the hackathon: Discovery. There’s a vast array of sponsors for the event on-board already, with a large number of prizes on offer (to be announced soon). The winning team will receive seats in PwC’s Technology Academy, a two-day development program that gives IT students some technical, commercial and employability skills.
