LG has today announced a new wearable that they’re aiming directly at parents. The new wearable called KizON is a GPS and Wi-Fi location tracker which shares real-time location information to a smartphone.

The KizON includes a 2G/3G radio, which allows parents or loved ones to call the child directly using the One Step Direct Call function, to easily communicate with their children at any time throughout the day. The ability to call the child is restricted to a list of 10 pre-configured phone number, set from and phone running Android 4.1 or higher.

There’s an element of safety included in the KizON, with an option to have the KizON automatically accept the call if the child fails to answer within 10 seconds. The call initiates the on-board microphone and lets you listen in.

With the location aware features, KizON can also update you regularly throughout the day at pre-configured times to share their location with you.

The band, which is made of a polythiourethane material will be released in a choice of three colours: blue, pink and green. It’s water-resistant and contains a rechargeable battery which will last 36 hours on a charge and notify parents when it needs a charge.

Specs:

  • Memory: 64MB RAM / 125MB ROM
  • Battery: 400mAh
  • Size: 34.7 x 55.2 x 13.9mm
  • Color: Blue / Pink / Green
  • Network: 2G / 3G

There’s no pricing announced at this stage, but the band will be made available in South Korea from July 10th, with plans to roll it out to North America and Europe later this year. Whether we see it in Australia later this year as well is unclear but we’ll let you know.

Great idea. Does it notify you if the watch is removed? Methinks that would be pretty important
