A couple of weeks ago, Instagram began rolling out their new snapchat clone – Bolt, the initial rollout hit only three countries, but the app has now gone live in Google Play for Australians.

In case you’ve forgotten, Bolt is, a photo sharing app similar to what Snapchat currently offers but with a few differences. Bolt is actually a mix of Snapchat and Facebook’s Slingshot messaging app. Bolt asks you to join using your phone number, then allows you to add 20 friends to your favorites list, who you can then message. Bolt lets you send both photo and video messages to friends using a single tap, like Snapchat and Slingshot you can then add text captions to the selected videos or photo’s prior to sending.

The only downfall with Instagram’s Bolt app is that users can only send messages to one person at a time and can have no more than 20 people from their contacts added at any given point. Users can respond to photo and video messages with text or photo replies and messages will disappear as soon as they are swiped away. Similar to what Snapchat and Slingshot provide.

Looking at the Google Play description, Bolt is only available for devices running Android 4.0 and upwards. With a 4.1 star rating it seems good, but reviews show it’s got some issues with a fair few describing the experience as slightly buggy.

If you’re still interested in trying out Bolt, you can download the app from Google Play for free via the link below.
