Qimini, the creators of the Pocket wireless charger, are taking it to the next level with the introduction of Deuce, a wireless charger with a built-in 2,000 mAh battery for use in places where USB ports aren’t readily available.

The project is now available for backing via Kickstarter, promising a thin and light powerbank with a Qi inductive charging coil to charge compatible devices on the go. Qimini claims that Deuce’s 2000 mAh battery will be able to supply an additional 50% battery life to a Nexus 5, or 45% to a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Deuce is just 14mm thick and weighs in at only 110g, and will be available in 4 colours (black, white, ‘dragon fruit’ red and emerald green) – provided the project achieves their Kickstarter goal of $40,000. If all goes according to plain, Deuce should ship in February 2015 – Qimini points out that they’ve got some experience in delivering products in this way, so we’ve no reason to doubt their timetable.

As with all Kickstarter campaigns though, there’s no guarantee that the Qimini Deuce will actually work out, or that the parties involved will be able to deliver the product in question – Ausdroid isn’t endorsing the campaign, just letting our readers know about it.

Does a super-portable Qi powerbank appeal to you? Do you use a portable charging solution? Let us know in the comments!

What one do you have? Is it good?

I have a QI charger just like this. Why would I fund another? Surely Kick starter is for original ideas?

I’ve been looking all over ebay for this kind of thing, I didn’t realise how much stuff the Ausdroid shop has, they have a 4000 mah qi battery pack that looks good and I think I might get one. Was going to get the qistone+ but this one is about half the price and looks identical, thanks for the heads up Steve. The only advantage I think the qimini has is using it straight up plugged into a wall as a travel qi charger. I don’t think other battery packs are capable of this?

I still see it as a massive fail. The QI portion has 70% efficiency to contend with; i.e. effective capacity 1400mAh. And being circular it’s wider than a phone; and, any typical pocket. The products already available in the Ausdroid shop are superior and very competitivly priced.

I’d also be interested to see what extra capacity could be added with the addition of 2-4mm more thickness.

It’s an interesting idea. I have a USB battery I carry for emergencies but Qi would be nice I suppose.

Not necessarily, I have a 12000 mah battery pack but I’m constantly on the look for a nice say 2000 to 4000mah compact battery pack that’s more pocketable that I could take out to the pub or dinner and just slip it in your pocket. Also if you use it to power moto 360, the 2000 mah battery should have more than enough juice to charge motos 300/320 mah battery numerous times. I wouldn’t use this as my main battery pack but as a more pocketable one, and even just a travelling wireless charger to plug into sockets.

This project will not work. Generally consumers want bigger & better. 2000mAh is too small. It needs to be 3 to 4 times that as well as small & elegant.

This is going to be perfect for those nights away from home with my moto 360, don’t no if I can wait that long might have to buy the qistone in the meantime.
