Acer’s new Chromebooks and Chromebox are now available in Australia, starting at $329

Acer today announced some new arrivals in its Chromebook range and a new Chromebox at Australian retailers.

Chromebook 13

The jewel in the new range’s crown though is the Chromebook 13, pictured above. It’s the first Chromebook to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 – soon to be seen in the Nexus 9 – and runs fanless.

You can choose between a 1080p screen or a more standard 1366×768 display as the device’s 13.3 inch screen. There’s a full size HDMI port alongside USB 3.0 and Wi-Fi ac is supported for super fast network connections.

The Chromebook 13 is about 18mm thick weighs 1.5kg and starts at $379.

Chromebook 11

The Chromebook 11 – model CB3-111 – offers a compact, light and portable experience for users with an 11.6-inch widescreen 1366×768 LED backlit TFT LCD display. It’s powered by an Intel Bay Trail M Celeron N2830 processor. It’s a little over 18mm thick, weighs 1.1kg and comes in Moonstone White. There’s Bluetooth 4.0 on board with both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, an SD card reader, HDMI output and a headphone jack. The Chromebook 11 starts at $329.

There’s also an alternative model of the Chromebook 11 – C730 – that comes in Granite Gray for commercial and education markets. It’s more durable, with a better structural design that can withstand a 60% higher drop test and a spillproof keyboard. It’s a little thicker and a little chunkier, at nearly 22mm thick and 1.4kg but is otherwise the same unit. This model starts at $$399.

Chromebox CXI

Acer’s also finally bringing its Acer CXI Chromebox – announced in August – to Australia, starting at $359.

The CXI is powered by an Intel Celeron 2957U processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM running Intel HD graphics. It’s got a 16GB SSD on board and is about 17x13cm on the face, and a little over 3cm tall. There’s a VESA mount kit included, so you can hide the box away behind your monitor.

We rather liked Acer’s last Australian Chromebook releases – the C720 and C720P – but they proved notoriously difficult to find at retail. Hopefully Acer’s new range will fare better.
