Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 last week were treated to the knowledge their phones would, according to a source, begin seeing the Android Lollipop update for their phone around December, last month, they were treated to an 8 minute video from the folks at SamMobile, showing off Samsung’s current progress of bringing the latest version of Android to the phone with their own Touchwiz based flair on top. Today, yet another video has surfaced showing off an updated version of the Lollipop version of Touchwiz.

The well connected folk over at SamMobile have put up another (shorter) video of Lollipop running on a Galaxy S5. The new video shows Android Lollipop with a later build – going from LRW58J in the last video to LRX02E now, what the final build will be is anyones guess, with Google still yet to finalise a code push to AOSP. The update from Samsung, shows an even more refined Touchwiz than last time, with Material Design showing throughout the interface.

The post lists a stack of updates and changes including:

  • New Note 4 fingerprint lock screen
  • New system-wide font — similar to the original one, but a tad thinner.
  • Google Search bar in recents menu
  • Removed “Interruptions” from Sound settings
  • Gallery: Media can be sorted using new filters including Pets, Events, Scenery, Documents, Food, Vehicles and Flowers.
  • Music: Improved UI
  • Clock: Navigation bar icons are now accompanied by text
  • Calculator: Removed square grids which surrounded the numbers and symbols
  • Contacts: New search box
  • Stock Material Design inspired applications receive colored status bar
  • Android Lollipop theme’s core green elements replaced with Samsung’s blue colour
  • Settings: Improved UI, new icon colours
  • New UI for setting wallpaper from home screen
  • Better spacing between options in power off dialog

SamMobile have advised that while it looks great, it’s not quite ready for release as a daily driver. From a purely design perspective though, it looks very nice and from the video, appears quite snappy, so it will be very interesting to see what the final product is like

Wow this looks really great! I’m really happy samsung is adopting the material design.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

This is a lot of progress from the first Lollipop build I saw on the S5. I’m hoping by the time of release there are a lot more animations in there. That’s one of the key features of Lollipop.
