In a day of disappointment for Aussie when it comes to Motorola products this evening has ended in a small amount of good news. While earlier the Moto 360 changed to pre-order on the Harvey Norman website the Moto X 2nd Gen phone has done the opposite and has shown up as a product that can be purchased now.

The Moto X, although it has been overshadowed in recent weeks by the Nexus 6 and the Motorola Maxx, is a much sought after phone due to Motorola’s customisations without affecting the stock Android experience. It has been said that the Nexus 6 is effectively a stretched out Moto X. If the Nexus 6 is too big to your liking then maybe you should be thinking about shelling out the $698 Harvey Norman are asking for it before it sells out as fast as the Moto 360 did.

While we are yet to hear any official word from Motorola on the availability of the Moto X 2nd Gen they originally told us late October/early November which fits in with now. In saying that we are yet to see the Moto X 2nd Gen show up on any of the other online retailers. If you find it somewhere else let us know in the comments.

Are you looking at getting a Moto X 2nd Gen.? Let us know in the comments below if you will be buying online from Harvey Norman.

I’m assuming this isn’t the version with pure android?

Harrison Pace

It’s the pure edition, so yes? – no Moto phone comes with pure android they have Moto customisation on top…

iPhone user ready to jump platform here, just wondering how much storage would you consider enough for android phones? I can live without music and videos on the phone, but what about photos, apps and other stuff? Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Harrison Pace

Good Question here – I really recommend 16GB if you decide to make use of Google Services as all your Photos are backed up online, apps take up a small amount of space unless your gaming a lot and generally it’s hard to fill unless your a multimedia junkie or power-user. But just like the iPhone once you’ve made your choice you cannot change, so consider if you had 16GB or 32GB on the iPhone and match that, and you should be happy.

Harrison, ‘multimedia junkie’ is definitely an accurate description of how I use my Android devices.

Thanks very much for coming up with that description.

I have 105 apps and 1000+ pics on full res and a few videos. This amounts to 2.93GB. Add the system software to this (not sure what that is on Moto X but I’d guess less than 5GB?) and you have 8GB. So you still have another 8GB free on my phone. In my eyes 16GB is a lot unless you’re planning on downloading a lot of Games for it. But even then… Also Google + will keep all your pics and videos in the cloud for free, so I don’t really get why people worry about 16GB. I’m getting… Read more ยป

Bit the bullet and ordered online to pick up in store. Should tide me over till the N6 hits Aussie shores (one day) haha. Can confirm that the stores in SA don’t have them in yet.

$700 for the 16GB version? You can get the 32GB version on Moto Maker from the states and have it freight forwarded for less than that (assuming freight forwarding works from Moto Maker)

Credit Cards are bit tough to use though unless you have an Amex card or US credit Card service.

Anastasia Elissa

Can you use non US credit card for purchase from the web??

Harrison Pace

This is only if you plan to buy from the US Motorola Site buying from eBay, Harvey Norman etc. you wouldn’t need a US credit card…

TT

Well I think it’s worthwhile to wait nexus 6. First it comes with purely Android 5 and second I don’t think nexus 6 will cost me $200 more than US prices.

I guess moto x will decrease prices within 3 month like all Samsung phones.

Harrison Pace

I bought the Bamboo / White Verizon model as it works on Australian Bands and is near stock experience plus it cost $200 less. Not for all with as it came with a locked bootloader but atleast it works on 4G out of the box and is Bamboo. Can’t justify buying from Harvey Norman…

Fiddle Castro

Bought the Bamboo/White from where? And which model? XT1092?

Harrison Pace

Yep and from eBay (US) In Box/Brand New there are heaps in box selling on there around $450 mark for Bamboo…

Though be careful cannot guarantee it will work on all carriers and you’re taking a risk anytime buying a phone from a 3rd Party…

Fiddle Castro

So yours is working fine on the networks here?

Harrison Pace

I am currently on amaysim which uses 3G only I will update you once I move to a 4G carrier later this week but if you google the Verzion models you will find they operate on (4G) 1800MHz (B3) which works on Telstra, Optus, Vodafone as well as 2600MHz (B7). With the FCC requiring the phones to be unlocked; so it should certainly work and users in Europe have confirmed it has worked internationally. I will update this post mid next week with final confirmation that 4G is working on Optus.

Fiddle Castro

Cool. Looking forward to hearing your update mid-week.

fpd

eagerly waiting for your confirmation ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fiddle Castro

Any update on the Moto X on new 4G contract?

Harrison Pace

Sorry for late reply my previous comment isn’t showing on Disqus for some reason, but the Verizon model works perfectly at great speeds. (On 4G – Optus in my area getting 30mbps down on average ๐Ÿ˜€

Harrison Pace

It works fine ๐Ÿ™‚

If you buy an unlocked AT&T (XT1097) or Verizon (XT1096) model, wouldn’t you still need to wait for a carrier version of software/firmware updates to be released, hence having to wait longer than OTA’s directly from Motorola? Even though the phone is unlocked to use any SIM, the firmware will still be a carrier based firmware and the bootloader would still be locked. Pure Edition or a model not sold via a carrier (like the ones sold here through retailers) would get updates as soon as Motorola releases them. This is the main thing stopping me from getting an Unlocked… Read more ยป

Looks like it’s only available in black. Would really like the Bamboo.

Harrison Pace

Expect a price increase if ever available…

Fiddle Castro

They do Bamboo/White, but sales have been delayed until end-Nov.
