After we posted the price of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact over the weekend, Sony Australia has today advised that the tablet is now available.

The tablet will only see limited availability, with Sony advising the tablet will only be available from Sony Centres, Sony Kiosks and Sony Store Online, but Sony themselves seem quite excited about the tablet, with Peter McKeon, Managing Director Oceania, Sony Mobile Communications advising:

Following on from the success of our award-winning Xperia Z2 Tablet, we’re continuing to expand our tablet portfolio with the launch of the no-compromise compact tablet. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact pushes the boundaries of technology innovation by bringing our flagship Z3 series features in a compact sized tablet, continuing our new standard of offering premium experiences in a choice of form factor for consumers

The tablet has been quite popular with Australians since it was announced, with many preferring it to the Nexus 9, or the Nvidia Shield Tablet. The specs on the tablet include high end hardware, including an IP65/68 rating making it water/dustproof. The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact specs include :

  • 8” 1200 x 1920 resolution TRILUMINOUS™ display for mobile, X-Reality for mobile, Opti Contrast IPS LCD
  • 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core Krait 400
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB Storage expandable to 128GB via MicroSD Card
  • 8.1MP rear facing camera, 2.2MP front facing
  • Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, MHL3.0 with microUSB-B OTG

  • Android 4.4.4
  • 4500 mAh with STAMINA mode
  • 213.3×6.4×123.6 mm @ 270grams

The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact also comes with PS4 Remote Play compatability for gamers, allowing you to stream games from your PS4 to your tablet over WiFi.

You can check out the specs for the 16GB Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact on the Sony Australia website. No word on if a 32GB or LTE version will join the 16GB model, but we can hope.

Will you be purchasing the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact?

The one thing that could swing this for me over the Nexus 9 is battery life. Nexus 9 had bigger battery but also bigger screen. Which do people here think is the longer lasting?

Also, are Sony good with updates?
