Nexus-6-hero-1600

If you’ve been waiting today to get your hands on a Nexus 6, I’m sorry to say the chances are above about 95% that you’ve missed out. Since we announced the availability in Australia via the Play Store this morning, we’ve seen stock levels replenished three times, and each time, the stock has sold out within a short while.

As you can see from our graphic below, the initial stock available for purchase lasted about three hours, and that’s only because it became available at around 5.30 a.m. this morning. Once Australia woke up and figured out what was going on, the stock disappeared within the space of about an hour and a half. Between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. we saw the stock replenish twice, and very quickly after, sell out again.

Fast forward to this evening, and around 5 p.m. a further tranche of stock was released, but sold out within about fifteen minutes or so.

Why are we posting about this? It tells us that despite the massive delays in releasing the Nexus 6 in Australia, there’s not really been any let-up in demand for the next instalment in the Nexus line. If anything, we’ve seen even higher demand this year than we have in years past, and that’s perhaps not all that surprising, considering the Nexus 6 is probably one of the most powerful phones to be released.

How did you go on launch day? Did you place an order? did you miss out? Let us know, below!

so will there be any issues if i buy overseas model and use it in australia?

Sean Zemunik

Ordered mine last night. A simple stock checker on my phone went nuts as soon as they were there. Interesting that its only 2 to 3 weeks shipping. So I will get mine at the same time as those who secured them on the first wave. Guys, stock checker app, Wednesday night= you will get one %100 if you get up and purchase when that alarm hits. I used the black and white looking stock checker…worked perfectly.

Spoke to my local JB and they checked their systems, only the 32Gb Blue is loaded. No idea of 64Gb or white versions yet 🙁

Marshall

I got the newest batch but then canceled my order and bought it from French Amazon.

kungfutigerr

Are you saying that you managed to order one from Google Play Australia, then cancelled and bought from Amazon France?

Brave move.

Marshall

Well it’s $110 cheaper and should be here next week instead of Janurary!

Elliot

Sorry Moto/Google, 4 days too late. HTC M8 and happy.

RAY

NOW IS BACK IN STOCK, BUT NEED TO WAIT 3-4 WEEKS TIME, ALSO, ONLY BLUE WITH 32GB, NO WHITE AT ALL, NO 64GB TOO

Chris

Already gone again.

Pumpino

I’m surprised there’s been much demand for it. It’s ridiculously big and ridiculously expensive. LG was more efficient in making stock available in Australia than Motorola, and that’s saying something. The Nexus 6 has turned me off the Nexus program for good. I’ll stick with Sony Xperias from now on.

Butter Butter

I don’t know if the demand has been that high? I feel there are less units available than what LG had with the Nexus 5

GregAndo

Based on what information do you say that?

SachmoJoe

That’s what I was thinking. Surely the difference in price and size would lead to a lesser demand… unless the popularity of Nexus devices from Google Play has skyrocketted in the last year, but I’d be surprised if that were the case. Strikes me as just a matter of fewer devices allocated for now.

GregAndo

I like my Xperia Z Ultra, but not the software. I left nexus… But am going back and will never leave again.

Jarryd Howard

Luckly I got a nexus 5 instead

Jamie Saltmarsh

Hey Jarryd, have you received your N5 yet, if so first impressions, battery life etc?

Jarryd Howard

I really like it, the battery life could be better (but google is apparently releasing 5.0.1 which is supposed to fix this and improve battery life, but it charges for me pretty quickly.) The camera is not the best, but I don’t really use a phone to take pictures. The size is good for me (as my pockets are short and wouldn’t really fit a 6 inch phone). The price is still really good as it performs like what $700-900 phone would perform. Is there anything else you want from it Jamie?

Jamie Saltmarsh

No, that’s great thanks mate. I’m tossing up between the N5 and Xperia Z3.

butter butter

If you want a better camera and battery z3. Sony released the codes for the phone so expect some stock android ROMs in future if you’re into flashing

Chris

Go the Z3. My review will be published tomorrow.

Jamie Saltmarsh

Thanks Chris, I’ll check it out.

Caleb Johns

Z3 for sure, better specs, better camera, better screen.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Z2 Owner here. Go the Z3. It’s great.

Kenny

Z3 Compact owner here. Very happy with the construction and the size. I hope Sony continues with the trend of high performance compacts, and that other manufacturers will realise that consumers do not want watered down mini versions.

SachmoJoe

What’s the price difference? I’m a current (and very happy) Nexus 5 user but if I had to buy a new phone right now I’d probably go either the Z3 or Z3 Compact, gorgeous phones.

Joshua Hill

I hope 5.0.1 and a few charge cycles improves your battery life although it was always below average on kit-kat and personally I haven’t noticed a difference in battery life on 5.0.0 or 5.0.1 on my N7.

Brandon D'Souza

No surprise there, hopefully JB HI FI manages to get more than a couple in stock like the Moto 360

RAY

IS BACK IN STOCK NOW ON GOOGLE PLAY, BUT TIME FRAME 3-4 WEEKS, NIGHT BLUE WITH 32GB ONLY

chris

Stop shouting

Ric Smit

Give him a break, he’s excited!!!

chris

Nah, twice he did it, not required all caps
