There wasn’t really any surprise when we saw murmurs LG would be announcing the G Flex 2 at CES 2015, as there have been CES banners up around the place with G Flex 2 naming shown off. So, with little ado, LG unveiled the next generation curved display device earlier today.
It looks as if the G Flex 2 improves on the original G Flex in many ways, with a higher resolution, full HD 5.5″ curved P-OLED display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Octa-Core 64-bit cores.
On the topic of that curve, the original G Flex had a 700mm radius, while the updated G Flex 2 features a dynamic curve ranging from 400mm to 700mm across all sides and edges.
Out of the box, the LG G Flex 2 comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop, with the usual custom features from LG included to make use of the curved shape of the phone:
- Gesture Shot makes it easy to capture the perfect selfie with a simple hand gesture recognisable from up to 1.5 meters away.
- Gesture View makes it easy to check your last shot immediately after taking a photo or selfie.
- Glance View displays key information such as time, recent messages or missed calls with a downward swipe of the curved screen even while the display is off.
- Fast Charge allows the embedded 3,000mAh battery to be charged up to 50 percent in under 40 minutes.
In other features, the G Flex 2 comes with a 13MP OIS+ camera with Laser Auto Focus, a dual LED flash, and on the front, a 2.1MP front camera. As noted above, the curved battery is a whopping 3,000mAh powerhouse with fast charging functionality. Storage wise, we’re looking at 32GB of internal storage.
All these internals will be wrapped up in a choice of colours including silver and red.
LG has spoken about a global release for the G Flex 2, following a debut in South Korea at the end of January 2015. While we know about US carriers taking the phone on board — because CES is held in the US — plans for Australia haven’t yet been floated. No doubt they’ll come down the track from LG’s local PR firm, but until then, we’ll just have to watch on and wait.

lets hope optus doesnt get the exclusive again this time considering the first gen was snatched by optus fingers crossed lets hope other carriers gets the phone as well
I hope LG can backport Glance View into the firmwares for some of their recent devices.
I’m guessing this will be one expensive phone.
