Authy, the cloud-based two-factor authentication service, has announced this week that they are in the process of being acquired by cloud communications services provider Twilio.

Twilio and Authy have had a long-standing relationship with one another, Twilio having been selected by Authy back in 2012 to power the sending of authentication codes via SMS and phone calls worldwide.

Authy founder and CEO Daniel Palacio writes on the Authy blog that there will be changes to the way Authy operates as a result of the acquisition.

Initially a rapid expansion of Authy’s R&D team will take place, followed by 24/7 support being made available across all time zones worldwide and access for Authy customers to Twilio’s volume pricing discounts.

The Authy brand, however, is expected to remain active for the foreseeable future.
