Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge - Model
The latest Galaxy S release is reportedly being well received by the buying public, with a reported 20 million pre-orders already received in the week since the phone was announced.

According to a report in the KoreaTimes, an expert from a leading carrier in Europe – who declined to be named – has advised

Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge _ 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record.

It’s early days yet, and we know Samsung is never backwards in coming forwards regarding reporting sales, or pre-order numbers so we may hear something officially soon, if these numbers are indeed true. Samsung Electronics mobile chief JK Shin has advised there has been a positive reception to the launch stating:

To be honest, pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge.

The immediate comparison people will draw from any announcement from Samsung is of course to one of their biggest rivals, Apple. Apple reportedly received more than 4 million pre-orders for the iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus in the first 24 hours after announcement last year.

Samsung has always heralded sales numbers for their Galaxy phones, but last year pre-orders/pre-sales for the Galaxy S5 were reportedly around 40% lower than those on the Galaxy S4. In the wake of the Galaxy S5 launch, and subsequent ‘failure’, three executives in Samsung’s mobile division were reportedly fired. If indeed Samsung has turned their ship around, this news would be welcome for Samsung – and the executives now in those positions recently vacated.

We will probably hear more from Samsung on sales, if they’re successful in the near future.
Would you pre-order a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge right now if given the chance?

Cute girl.

Unlike HTC, Samsung took the time to change the design and build quality. Many people want a phone that looks different before they’ll part with their old one, even if the internals are improved. It’s hard to pick the difference between the M8 and M9, but it’s easy to distinguish between the S5 and S6.

The S6 looks exactly like the previous Galaxy phones which have stayed the same design for years now. The materials have changed but the design has not. Front on, you’d be hard pressed to differentiate the S4 from S5 and S6. And what do you expect HTC to do? They already had a design that looks good and was critically applauded, already had a premium metal build, where do they go from there? Diamond-encrusted builds? Samsung finally ditch the plastic after over half a decade and they get applauded, HTC release another well designed, high-end premium phone and they get… Read more »

Yes the HTC M9 is a good looking phone WITH a 1080p screen and a ‘maybe” dodgy SoC (Snapdragon 810). The front cam IMO has a question mark over it too but still it is a good looking phone. Have you handled an S6 and/or an S6 Edge or seen one in real life? No! So you don’t know if they look ANYthing like the S5…I know the Edge doesn’t and I also know that from the photo’s I would NEVER mistake it for an S5, more an iphone 6. Maybe you should wait before posting your bias because you… Read more »

Thanks. Didn’t know my eyes didn’t work and I actually had to hold the device to make visual observations. No, the S6 looks extremely similar to the S5 and the S4. So much so that I doubt the general public would be able to correctly identify one of the three devices if it was shown to them. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s not. It would be silly for Samsung to all of a sudden drastically change their design and alienate consumers. I’m just pointing out that it’s kinda silly to criticise HTC for having a similar looking… Read more »

The S5 is quite a bit bigger than the S4 which is also rounder than the S5 which is flat at the top and the bottom. Then when you look at the S6 Edge well! It is obviously a lot different. However, the criticism of Samsung was NEVER the look of the phone, it was the feel. This is why I said have you held one. Every phone is unique to its maker. The general public can tell it is an iphone or a SONY, HTC, LG or Samsung by the design of the phone. I think the criticism of… Read more »

Truth be told just seeing pix and videos of the Galaxy S6 Edge excites me thoroughly. It is the most beautiful phone I have ever seen. And Touchwiz has finally been given some what of a touch up. Recently got me a Windows Phone for the second time. Avid Android user but seriously needed a break. But trust Samsung to create all sorts of temptations.

Touchwiz is still touchwiz, you either love it or hate it. Sure they may have removed a few preinstalled apps and made a few cosmetic changes but it’s still too heavy for my likeing.

Agreed. I’d consider getting one if there was a stock android ‘GPE’ model that was available here, but their UI is so over done and so gaudy/childish, the only way to get rid of it is by flashing a ROM and Exynos support will be suspect along with me not wanting to have to do that crap.

As far as hardware goes, it looks like an awesome device. Camera looks good, screen looks good etc. But the software ruins it for me.

I’m looking forward to see what KG and Sony come up with.

You can change the UI look with the provided “Themes” app. At this early stage, the Avengers theme looks good to me.

No offense to Samsung owners, but its almost becoming like the sheep that line up for the release of another brand of the fruit variety.

Not really, sheep are those people who buy apple because it is apple and they think that you are not cool if you don’t or in China if you buy your girlfriend other than Apple you are cheap. It is all about marketing. Some people like the Apple interface just like lots like the way Samsung has done things however with Apple most are really sheep. In the end buy what you want and suits you screw this competition over a brand. When the tech market corrects itself, and it will with companies with little revenue selling for 16 billion… Read more »

Just to clarify. This is the retailers that bought the 20 million units.

Yes Ben, but the carriers/retailers wouldn’t buy them if they didn’t think they had suckers to sell them to at a large profit.
