After a long absence, LG returned to the tablet market with their G Pad 8.3. Google liked it so much that they loaded a Google Play Edition ROM onto the tablet and sold it via the Google Play store in the US. The tablet came with Android 4.2(Jelly Bean) but has been updated to KitKat at various stages since release – and it may be about to get Lollipop.

LG has uploaded Lollipop source for the LG G Pad 8.3 (V500) to their open source distribution site, sparking rumours that the rollout to the tablet may begin soon. The source is there, though it appears to be a first release and you can download it, but whether it’s bug free is another issue.

As a GPE device, the tablet enjoys a fairly popular status on developer forums and with Lollipop source now available, hopefully it won’t be long till we see a ROM for the device – or LG may just deliver it first, either way it’s promising.

I agree. I use one and am quite happy with it.

I use Nova launcher on it, which already has the lollipop look and feel so not too fussed even if my tablet doesn’t receive the update.
