If you’ve been watching developments with Android Auto closely, you’re undoubtedly a fan of new technology, if not bleeding edge stuff. It seems there was a bit of a hiccup with Android Auto of late, with it not actually supporting some of the more popular bleeding edge handsets, including Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Well, it seems that anomaly has now been corrected, in the latest update to Google Play Services (which runs a lot of the behind-the-scenes things that makes Google services work so well on Android). It has been confirmed that the update does indeed bring support for Android Auto to the Galaxy S6 and Edge, meaning that your bleeding edge car entertainment unit now supports your bleeding edge phone.
If you’re one of the few that’s keen to get this working, we’d love to be able to tell you which version of Google Play Services to keep an eye out for, but as the version numbers differ between devices and manufacturers, it’s a bit hard to pinpoint it. Google updates tend to arrive mid-week (Wednesday or Thursday, typically) so keep an eye out in the next day or two and the update should be there for you.
Bear in mind though that unlike most Android apps, Play Services will usually update without telling you that it has, so if suddenly your S6 and your car stereo link up and play nice, you’ll know why. The S6/Edge join the already supported HTC One M8 and HTC One M9, Moto X and Nexus range.
