Google’s most popular Nexus phone, the Nexus 5 will apparently begin receiving a new OTA update – at least according to US carrier Sprint.

The Nexus 5, which is currently rocking Android 5.1.0 Build LMY47I – will soon be getting a bump to 5.1.1 Build LMY48B as of today US time. The update follows updates to Android 5.1.1 which have already hit the Nexus Player, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013) and original Nexus 7.

This update information was gleaned from the support page from US Carrier Sprint, but with the same hardware in the hands of Nexus 5 owners around the world, it’s almost certain that this update will hit your Nexus 5 soon.

If you’re still rocking your Nexus 5, the update should hit quite soon via OTA, and we should be seeing an update on the Nexus Factory Images page soon as well.

Has the Nexus 6 received it yet? I’ve never understood Google’s rollout schedule. I would’ve thought that phones should receive updates first, given people tend to rely on them more.

Possibly they have different teams working on each device? Driver updates are sometimes also an issue from the parts suppliers.
