Looks like that proposed takeover of HTC by Asus won’t be happening – at least voluntarily from HTC’s part at least. HTC made an announcement to investors to denounce rumours raised by Reuters just three days ago, that Asus chairman Johnny Shih was looking at acquiring the company.

Issuing the statement under the heading ‘To clarify the news on Asustek will not rule out the possibility of acquiring HTC Corp’. HTC said:

We strongly deny the news. We didn’t contact Asusteck and will not consider the acquisition. As an international brand, HTC will continue to design world-class innovative smart devices through its pursuit of brilliance brand promise.

The announcement certainly sounds confident, and HTC’s share price has risen a couple of more dollars since the announcement to $NT83.60 per share. If Asus was looking to acquire the company, there’s options but it seems a merger isn’t on the table, so look forward to what other great products HTC can deliver us in the near future.

Matt

ASUS mobile division just became profitable and things look like they will only go up from here. I don’t think ASUS as a brand name works well on a phone for whatever reason.

Me

The companies would benefit from a merger.

Asus has tablets while HTC has phones which is a good a balance.

Both companies need to update their products faster.

i suspect HTC will be begging Asus within 12 months if they continue with the way they are going
