Twitter - HTC
According to HTC’s Twitter account the Taiwanese based company is set to announce a new device on October 20th. The device will be one of the first new non-Nexus devices to be announced running Android Marshmallow, an admirable feat given that the final Marshmallow code has yet to be pushed to the Android Open Source Project as yet (though it’s expected on October 5th).

The event looks set to be a global launch, with times for New York, London, Delhi and Taipei listed in the event notice above and HTC will stream the event virtually through the www.htc.com/launch website.

HTC One A9

Exactly what will be unveiled isn’t clear, but the rumour is that it will be the HTC One A9 which noted internet leaker Evan Blass has been right on top of since the rumours first began, even going so far as to release pictures of the device in various colour options.

Evan has also been able to supply a limited spec sheet for the HTC One A9 which he says will include the recently announced Snapdragon 617 SoC with 2GB of RAM, a 5″ FHD (1920×1080) resolution AMOLED display and 16GB of on-board storage with a microSD card slot. The HTC One A9 will feature a 2150mAh battery powering the phone as well.

The all important camera will see a 13MP rear camera while the HTC Ultra-Pixel mainstay will again appear on the front with the 4UP listed. The cameras will feature Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) with backside illumination (BSI).

As advised by HTC, the phone will be running Marshmallow, which makes the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor that much more expected. The phone will be constructed of metal and be delightfully thin, coming in at just under 7mm. The HTC One A9 is expected to be available in November.

Whether the announcement is for the HTC One A9 isn’t guaranteed but given the timing of the announcement and the expected release date of the One A9, we’re looking forward to seeing what HTC has to offer.
