ZTE have added to new mobile devices to their line of available handsets in Australia, with the Blade D and the Chat 4G both headed to Optus and Coles Pre-Paid Mobile respectively.
Both the Blade D and Chat 4G actually look quite similar at first but there are some subtle differences, though the Blade D only comes in White, while the Chat 4G is offered in Black. As pre-paid devices, the handsets aren’t carrying flagship specs, but they’re decent for the market ZTE and Coles/Optus are aiming for.
So lets have a look at both devices separately shall we.
ZTE Blade D
So firstly we have the Blade D which for me, certainly looks quite good in the white colour I must say and the specs run sheet does offer some decent specs for your buck really. Here is the full list of specs the Blade D has:
- 5″ TFT Display (480 x 854)
- Qualcomm Quad Core 1.1GHz A7
- Adreno 304 GPU
- 8GB ROM with approx 4GB user space, expandable to 32GB via microSD
- 5MP Rear Camera, 2MP front facing
- Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop)
- 2200 mAh Li-ion, user-replaceable battery
- Network Connectivity:
- 2G: 900, 1800 MHz
- 3G: 900, 2100 MHz
- 4G: Band 3, Band 7, Band 28
- Dimensions: 145.5 x 72.8 x 9.4mm @ 165g
ZTE Chat 4G
Lastly we have the Chat 4G for me at least, looks somewhat very similar to the ZTE/Optus Fit 4G Smart device which was also reviewed earlier last year. Though the differences between the 2 would be the screen size and the OS. Here is the full list of specs the Chat 4G is offering:

Both devices are heading in separate retail brands with the Blade D being purely for Optus Pre-paid whilst the Chat 4G is heading to Coles Pre-Paid Mobile. Of course both mobiles are locked to the Optus Network and unlocking fees will apply to get them unlocked should you wish to use them on another network.
The Chat 4G or the Blade D are yet to hit both the Optus and Coles Mobile pages so its bot quite sure how much the devices will be priced at, but it would be fair to say that they wouldn’t be that overly expensive. Of course if we hear anything, we will let you know.

Where do I find the clipboard in my ZTE Blade Day?
Both blade d and chat 4 g are actually the same phone. Chat 4g is the marketing name for Coles yet the device name is still blade d in the settings, while Optus just use blade d as there marketing name. The only difference in the two phones is what comes pre installed blade d comes with Optus branded apps while chat 4g has no carrier branded apps. Coles sells the 4g for $70 while Optus direct charges $99

I’m clearly missing something, aside from one being black and the other white (which I wouldn’t think of as particularly subtle), what difference is there between the two phones?
Apart from the ‘Chat’ apparently not having a battery, the specs you’ve reproduced look identical.
Yep. I think Coles just wanted their units branded differently for marketing purposes and to confuse people so they don’t realise that it is EXACTLY THE SAME phone.
AUD$99 for Blade D. Does ok, hard to find accessories but I’m sure with time they’ll be available.
Coles have its twin (the ZTE Chat 4G) on special this week for $79 which I reckon is great value for money for these specs
