Have you ever thought to yourself man I’d like to make an ‘androgynous, sexy, science fiction music video?’ If the answer is Yes then boy oh boy do YouTube and Elton John have a competition for you. Introducing The Cut, a music video competition that will see 3 up-and-coming directors chosen to re-create the official music videos for 3 of Elton John’s iconic hits, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer and Bennie and the Jets.

Here’s the official introduction to the competition from Elton John and his musical writing partner of 50 years Bernie Taupin:

A different genre of video has been selected for the 3 songs with Rocket Man to be an Animation, Tiny Dancer to be Live Action and Bennie and the Jets to be a Choreographed dance. Hopeful music video directors are asked to submit a 90-second treatment (WTH is a treatment?) outlining their concept for the video and showing any supporting visuals, sketches models etc.

You can enter once for each song, and the judging panel will shortlist 2 videos for each song. The final winners for each song will have their concept chosen to be turned into a music view that they assist with producing and receive a $10,000 prize to go towards future artistic endeavours. The competition officially opened to the public on Jan. 9, 2017, and closes on January 23, so now is the time to get started, entries are open those aged 16 and up, for full T&C see the competition site.

This could be a very exciting prize for someone wanting to get into creating video content, let us know if you decide to submit!
