Magikarp isn’t the most exciting Pokemon; all it does is really flounder around … though it does evolve into something fairly useful, hence I try to level it up and evolve it as quickly as I can. However, to get you a bit more excited about Magikarp, the Pokemon Company have released a new game called Pokemon: Magikarp Jump, and it’s already proving rather popular amongst Pokemon fans new and old.

As the name suggests, this app sheds the spotlight on the lowly Magikarp in which players feed and develop the Magikarp to maximise the Pokémon’s jump power to reach new heights. Players will also partake in battles and competitions making their way to the Champion Leagues and rise to the level of League Champion.

Throughout the game, you will be training your Magikarp to become stronger and better. Along the way you will also find other Pokemon who will be there to help with the training as well as provide some free food as well. When you do well in various jumping competitions, you can get commemorative photos of your achievement, and you can then use or share these photos online and with friends to show the world how well you’ve trained your Magikarp.

I guess the only disappointment of the game is that you aren’t able to fully raise and evolve your Magikarp into Gyarados. The gameplay is pretty straight-forward; the Pokemon Company said of the new game:

During your training, if Magikarp gets knocked out, or retires upon reaching Lv. 20, you’ll start over with a new generation of Magikarp. But not all progress is lost—your new Pokémon will start off a little bit stronger than your last. Keep training every Magikarp until you can make it to the top of the in-game tournament ladder!

Also, Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is another ‘freemium’ game, with in-app purchases, where you can spend real money on a variety of things to speed up your training, replenish your food stock, and catch more Magikarp. There is also the opportunity purchase decor to customise your Magikarp’s habitat.

You can hit the link below to download the game for free directly from Google Play. Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is also available for both iOS devices directly from the App Store for free as well.
