Nokia’s flagship handset, the Nokia 8 is set to be unveiled next month at an event in London on August 16th according to invites being sent out to press.

The Nokia 8 has been steadily leaking over the last couple of months with high-end specs expected to catapult the Nokia brand back into prominence. HMD Global, the Finnish company behind the Nokia brand has just released the lower end Nokia 3, 5 and 6 handsets here in Australia, but it’s the Nokia 8 that could be the key to getting more brand recognition.

The Nokia 8 is rumoured to have a 5.3″ QHD (2560×1440) resolution display and is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM very likely depending on market. A new partnership with Carl Zeiss optics will bear fruit with the Nokia 8 reportedly the first phone in the Nokia line to bear the Zeiss branding on a dual 13MP rear camera setup.

Colour options will see a Blue/Silver, as well as Copper/Gold models announced, though anything could happen on that front – we’re hoping a return to Nokia’s colourful roots is on the cards.

European pricing for the phone has previously leaked at €589, or around $866AUD but that may change if/when it launches here.

The event is scheduled for 7:30PM London time on the 16th, that’s 4:30am AEST on the 17th of August for those playing back home here in Australia. We’ll be checking in with HMD locally for more information on the launch as it happens.
