Recently we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus were now officially Daydream compliant. Unfortunately it needed not just an update from Samsung but also a server side switch. Today we have been tipped off that Daydream is now functional here in Australia for these phones.

Following updates that have gone out over the air for some handsets recently, the appropriate updates to the OS have allowed the device to be capable of using Google’s Daydream app.

According to our tipster (thanks Dean), Daydream is now working on his Galaxy S8 after installing the app from the Google Play Store. Of course whether it works for you is dependent on whether your carrier has released the update yet. To see where the carriers are at with their updates head over to their update pages (Telstra, Vodafone, Optus) or hit them up on their social media channels, where support if often found these days.

For those who have used Daydream on their Samsung Galaxy S8 phones let us know in the comments below how the experience was? Did the Infinity Display affect the experience in any way (negative or positive)?

FYI: I got the update, but my GS8 has no carrier branding. I assume the carriers will hold back the update.
Also I bought the Headset and tried out Daydream, but it was surprisingly buggy. The app kept closing, and at one point my phone just instantly died and wouldn’t turn back on for 2 minutes.

Do we need to get the daydream headset as well or can we get it working with the Gear VR?
