After announcing that Android Oreo only last week, Google has today begun moving to make it more available by listing both device images and OTA update files, as well as starting to push the update to supported devices.
The Factory Images and https://developers.google.com/android/otaOTA Image files are available for the Nexus 5X/6P, Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C, but will be coming to the Nexus Player shortly we assume. The only information that Australian Pixel and Pixel XL owners should look out for is that Telstra has a specific firmware you need to apply – specifically: 8.0.0 (OPR6.170623.011, Aug 2017, Bell, Telus, Telstra, TMO, Sprint, USCC, Rogers/Fido).
As you can tell from looking at the software pages is that the release is named 8.0.0 OPR6.XXXXXXXX.XX. The new device build numbers are actually due to a change in how Google designates build numbers moving forward from Oreo. It’s actually quite simple to read:
Starting with Oreo, individual builds are identified with a new build ID format, in the form of PVBB.YYMMDD.bbb.
The P part represents the first letter of the code name of the platform release, e.g. O is Oreo.
The V part represents a supported vertical. By convention, ‘P’ represents the primary platform branch.
The BB part represents a alpha numeric code which allows Google to identify the exact code branch that the build was made from.
As well as OTA and images now being available, Google seems to have well and truly begun pushing the update to supported devices. We’ve seen tips from many readers such as Yiming, advising that the rollout has begun to their Pixel/Pixel XL phones:

The update is rolling out slowly, so like many Google updates may take a while to get to your phone. But if you want it fast, the update for the Pixels is the same build # as the one received last week when enrolling their devices in the Beta program. So if you don’t have it you can force it quite quickly by doing that.
I can confirm Telstra is blocking updates. I took my Telstra sim out and put in a different carrier’s sim and the download popped up.
Which device do you have? If it’s a Pixel or Pixel XL then you’re not getting the Telstra-specific system update and will most likely run into issues on Telstra’s network.
EDIT: On an unrelated note, I miss being able to get an email notification when someone replies to a comment you make.
Hopefully the Nexus 5X isn’t too far behind (and that Telstra aren’t being assholes and holding back the update for whatever reason – I have the OTA file on standby if that is indeed the case).
A warning on the nexus player, I am seeing massive data uploads from the player to an unknown location.
2.4 gb today since I was forced to reset my dumb Google Wifi units that had dropped the mesh network and refused to reconnect after the .8 firmware update.
Before that I say 15gb upload and 12mbps upload speeds.
I am on the beta version of Oreo but these uploads are worrying.
