This year there are a multitude of wireless earbuds designed to not just mimic the Apple Earpods but improve upon them in not just function and sound but also looks (that’s not hard though). Bose are the latest to do so, quietly announcing them along their Google Assistant-toting QC35II.

The new Bose earbuds are called the SoundSport Free wireless headphones and as their name suggests they are designed for use while exercising. Weighing at just a tick under 10 grams each earbud has a Bluetooth range of 10 metres and sweat and weather resistant (IPX4). They are not waterproof but designed to be able to handle standard exercising conditions such as sweat and rain but not swimming.

The earbuds offer digital signal processing and a volume optimised equaliser, controlled through the usual Bose app — unfortunately there is no noise cancelling though. Each earbud has up to 5 hours of battery life (defined as active listening), and the carry case provides another two full charges resulting in an extra 10 hours of battery life. Charging the earbuds for 15 minutes gives up to 45 minutes of play time.

The right earbud also has a multi-function button that can play/pause and skip tracks/videos, answer and end phone calls and also launch Google Assistant. Both earbuds have Bose’s StayHear+ Sport tips allowing them to sit comfortably and provide a good seal at the entrance of the ear canal without falling out during exercise. The earbuds also have a “find my Buds” feature that many of these types of earphones do which can be accessed from the Bose Connect app.

The Bose SoundSport Free wireless headphones will be available in “Triple Black” and “Midnight Blue with Yellow Citron” and will be available in the US from mid October. The US pricing is $249.95US. At this stage they are not listed on the Bose Australian website and neither Bose USA nor Amazon will ship them here. We have reached out to Bose Australia for possible pricing and availability for Australians — Bose tend to bring all their other products here so we expect these to arrive in the future.
