The whole move from Google Now to Google Assistant has been a rocky one for functionality. There’s features we used to use and love which has been met with the familiar ‘unsupported’ message on Google Assistant, it appears that one much loved feature from Google Search is about to finally arrive on Google Assistant – song recognition.

According to Android Police, the Google Assistant will be able to identify songs and it’s not just going to be coming to the Pixel 2 – where it’s already working – it will be everywhere. The feature showed up on the demo devices at the Made By Google event where they snagged this shot of the feature in operation, showing the familiar Graphic Equaliser bar with peaks and lows.

The card with results from identifying the song will show up with links to purchase, or at least listen to the song on several different services apparently.

There’s no word on when the feature will roll out to Assistant widely unfortunately. Until the feature arrives you can just type ‘What is this song’ into the Google Search bar, but if Google wants me all in on Assistant it needs these functions to work.

Hope this rolls out soon. The standard Google bar search has lost its integration with Play Music, so it’s been pretty annoying recently.
