It seems Google is finally working on a fully featured file manager app, with the app showing up on Google Play briefly today before being removed.
The app appears to have been targeted at a small number of users, possibly beta testing the app before a broader release. The app, called Files Go, indicates that it’s going to be aimed at users in developing or emerging markets who use Android Go, a version of Android announced at Google I/O earlier this year that will be used on lower spec devices.
Files Go appears to quite functional, with the list of features extending beyond the normal file manager application with a number of features listed by Italian Android news site, TuttoAndroid who found the app :
- Display of memory (internal and microSD) free and used;
- Tips to free up storage (internal and microSD);
- Application cache and messaging media file deletion;
- Displaying files (photos, videos, documents, etc.) in memory (internal and microSD);
- Sending and receiving files with other nearby devices;
- Uninstalling applications unused for a long time.
The APK for Files Go was of course captured and uploaded to APKMirror where you can download and install it for yourself. The app is a Beta, and it’s aimed at devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and above.
It was removed from Google Play, but if you want to keep an eye out, it should re-appear here when Google is ready to release it.
