Everyone’s favourite app for playing back their pirated legally backed up video content got a little better overnight with VLC adding Chromecast support to their Android app.

Almost three years after they started work on it, VLC for Android (Beta), yes it still has a Beta tag, now has Chromecast support in the app. The Chromecast support is listed as ‘Experimental’ so you can expect it to have bugs occasionally, but that’s just part of the wild ride – and I had issues casting from VLC this morning so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The latest update also includes Playlist files detection, Faster seek, SDCard files deletion and a fix for deletion on Oreo, the option to disable subs auto-loading, fixed artists/album classification, Chromebook & Samsung DeX support and of course ‘Misc. fixes’.

It’s available to download now in Google Play, so head over and download it and see how your experimental Chromecast support goes.
