Facebook’s Messenger has been gaining in popularity for some time, gaining over 1.3 billion monthly active users, and with 2.5 million new group chats created every day last year, it’s time that administrators of those chats got some controls. Today is the day, with Facebook announcing new Group Admin controls .
Group Chats can get quite unruly though, with support for up to 250 people in a group at a time – so giving administrators control is a great idea, and the new controls are quite intuitive. Admin controls aren’t on by default with administrators able to toggle the controls on or off in group chats’ settings.
Using these controls, administrators for large group chats will now have the option to control who joins a group before they’re in the chat, they’ll also be able to remove members, and promote or demote a user as an admin.
Also on the list of new features is the ability to create joinable links. Members of a group chat can create a link that can be shared and allow people to join the conversation. This can work in concert with the newly announced vetting option for administrators who can control who joins their chat. If vetting is switched on, new users have to wait for an admin to approve the request.
Facebook is rolling out the update to Messenger now, so keep an eye out for the update to hit your device.
