May the 4th (be with you) is Star Wars Days, and along with the option to go pre-purchase your tickets for ‘Solo’ at theatres there’s a bunch of Star Wars related launches and content out today. Lenovo has taken the opportunity to launch Local Multiplayer Lightsaber Duels on their Star Wars: Jedi Challenges Mirage Augmented Reality headset.

The update is available in version 1.4 of the Star Wars: Jedi Challenges app, which is now available for download in Google Play (and the iOS app store). The new feature of course requires that you have two of the Jedi Challenges starter kits with headset, lightsaber and sensor, but Lenovo have thought of that and it’s never been cheaper to buy the starter kit which is priced at $199 on their Australian website (which includes free shipping).

It’s not clear how this work, likely ‘force’ feedback through the lightsaber controller once your virtual blades make contact, but we’ll need a second starter kit to really try it out. The full changelog for the update:

• Engage other players in dynamic lightsaber duels that are different every time.
• Use the Force to sense your opponent’s next move and counter their attacks!
• Dodge and strike your adversary to claim victory in epic lightsaber combat.

As an owner of the Jedi Challenges headset I’m now looking for another owner nearby so we can try this out. It looks great though.
