LG has been bridging the gap between their flagship G-Series phones to the more budget conscious Q-Series handsets for over a year now, and have announced a new Q8 model for 2018 which includes a built-in stylus.

The phone is budget-minded, so comes with a reduction in specs from LG’s flagship range to match. The LG Q8 (2018) is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage with full support for up to 2TB microSD cards – if they ever get released.

A 3300 mAh capacity battery which can be fast-charged using Qualcomm’s QC 3.0 via the USB-C port on the base is powering the LG Q8 (2018), though it’s not removable.

LG hasn’t skimped on their cameras for the 16MP rear camera sensor which supports Phase Detection Auto Focus and is paired with an LED flash. The front-facing 5MP camera sensor sits behind a Super Wide Angle 100-degree lens for those group shots.

For the stylus fans, the built-in stylus is a real bonus here with LG working hard to provide some real utility for the tool. LG says you can now take notes directly on the display when the screen is turned off, as well as a more novel option of hearing one of 10 different sounds when writing on the display which mimic the sound of writing or drawing.

LG has included both an FM Radio and support for HD Digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) for listening to music or other shows while on the move and without a data connection.

While it’s easy to write the phone off as ‘cheap’, LG has gone the whole hog here ensuring the phone is toughened with a MIL-STD 810G and IP68 dust/waterproof rating.

The phone will be available in either Aurora Black or Moroccan Blue when it launches in Korea. LG hasn’t announced plans to launch it outside of their home market at this stage but we’ll let you know if LG changes their mind.

It is a slightly smaller version of the V20.
