We have seen the rumours and the leaks over the past 12 months and it looks set to finally become a reality this year — Samsung’s foldable phone, the Galaxy X.

Overnight Samsung’s Mobile Division CEO, DJ Koh, confirmed to CNBC that they were indeed not just working on a foldable phone but were planning to release it soon. While he was unwilling to give away any details on how it would function he did specify that Samsung were working hard to distinguish the experience of using it from that of a tablet.

It’s time to deliverDJ Koh

Koh said that Samsung were looking to unveil it at the Samsung Developer’s Conference in November in San Francisco but they had yet to complete development of it due to its “complicated” process.

If you want to hear everything DJ Koh said to CNBC head on over to their website and watch the video.

The Samsung foldable phone is expected to release with a bendable display which seems very pie-in-the-sky but remember when we all laughed at their curved edged phones and their massive sized phone (the Note line)? It seems that Samsung were the trend setters then and ahead of the curve — maybe they are with this as well and in a few years time all manufacturers will be making foldable phones?

I sooo want one of these. Possibly just because of…was it Penny in the Inspector Gadget cartoons who had the computer book? Alas I doubt it’ll launch with flagship specs, or be carried by Australian telcos, but still – exciting!
