Qualcomm and HMD Global announced today a partnership deal for rolling out 5G on Nokia-branded mobile devices.

What does this mean? Basically Nokia’s going to keep making phones, which will include 5G variants and Qualcomm will be providing the chips.

The announcement didn’t specifically state that this was an exclusive deal for processors, so we could see Nokia-branded HMD Global devices using SOCs from other companies.

If you’re a fan of Nokia and their Android One strategy – which personally I am – a hint of future 5G devices running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Chips is worth a little excitement.
