We first spotted a new Bluetooth device from Google several weeks ago and according to new information, Google is preparing to release a Bluetooth device referred to as a Bluetooth Tag.

Considering the device is Bluetooth only, and the FCC regulatory information is only available in a ‘companion app’ we’re supremely confident that this is a small device and most likely a Bluetooth tracker similar to a Tile.

With Apple rumoured to be releasing a similar device to hook into their new ‘find my’ ecosystem, Google could well be rushing to get their product out the door, or they just don’t care about details leaking ahead of their normal October event.

With a suspected portable Google/ Nest Hub speaker leaking last week it’s also possible that we may be seeing some products release sooner rather than later.

The Bluetooth tracker market is getting popular with Tile releasing a program for any hardware OEM to include Tile tracking beacons in their devices. With Google’s prowess in Maps and a virtual army of devices out around the world, it makes a lot of sense that Google could release a competitive BT tracker. It could be the most reliable way to find lost things.

While there’s unlikely a lot of innovation in this space, with a little MI here, and a bit of Google Assistant there, Google just could get the edge on the find my stuff device category!
