If you were watching the 2019 AFL premiers dispose of Adelaide at the Cattery last night you may have heard the TV commentators mention voting on Google for the game’s BOG. That’s because you can.

Google and the AFL have teamed up once again to provide a new way for AFL fans to get involved in the game. Using Google Search you can now vote on:

  • Best on Ground: for Friday night matches. Voting is open from 8:30pm to 10:45pm AEST Fridays for the rest of the home and away season and finals.
  • Player of the Round: You can vote on the best player of the round from Monday 3pm to Wednesday 3pm AEST for the home and away season only.
  • Fan Awards: this category is launching at the end of the season so stay tuned for that one along with more that will be arriving in the coming weeks.

To vote all you need to do is make sure you are signed into your Google Account on whatever device you choose and search for “AFL Vote”. You can vote once per day and there is one winner for each category with results appearing on the AFL website not long after voting closes for each category.

We know Aussies love sport, and come to Search to follow teams, scores, news and ladders. We’re delighted to team up with the AFL to bring Aussies a new way to get into the action and vote for their favourite players.Aisling Finch, Google Australia and New Zealand

These new interactions are welcome additions to the features already present for AFL fans in Google Search including live scores, match results, upcoming fixtures and ladders for the AFL.

At this stage we are unsure what the actual prizes are but get searching and hopefully one of us wins and we can find out exactly what they are. In the meantime — GO CATS!
