Last year we saw 90Hz displays become a real thing and a couple of phones also introduced 120Hz displays — most notably for gaming. This year Samsung is set to follow that trend bring a 120Hz display to their flagship Galaxy smartphone.
When Samsung announced the Exynos 990 processor, the processor expected to be in the next Galaxy flagship, note was made that the chipset supports 120Hz displays and may possibly make its way into Samsung smartphones this year.
Sammobile are now “confirming” this will be the case for the Galaxy S20 (not the S11, new year, new naming scheme). They have heard from a “highly reliable source” that the Galaxy S20 will indeed sport a 120Hz display. This will result, hopefully, in a much smoother display both in the phone interface but also in supported games.
The implementation of the 120Hz is expected to allow users to switch between 60 and 120Hz but there has been no mention of an intermediate 90Hz option. While Samsung panels support higher refresh rates in other manufacturers’ phones they are yet to implement it in their own phones.
Other rumours are now surfacing that the 120Hz refresh rate will be support in ALL Galaxy S20 models, which is very surprising.
