It’s now February 2020, and that means we’re getting much, much closer to a whole swathe of new smartphone releases. The first one to launch this month will undoubtedly be Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series, which arrives in a few days on February 11.

However, as with most launches, you can’t go and buy the new phone on the day its announced. We – especially in Australia – typically have to wait a month or two for retail availability, but this time around, it seems Samsung isn’t mucking around at all.

On its own website, Samsung has already made it possible to reserve a place to start the pre-sale phase for its new Galaxy S20 series smartphones. The same page confirms that shipments will begin on March 6.

While these dates are on the company’s US site, Samsung is one of the few companies which typically launches its products simultaneously in many markets, and Australia is usually one of the “first tranche” markets for the company.

This means we could see Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series launching in a little over four weeks locally .. which isn’t far away at all.

So what’s actually coming? Rumours are firming around three models – Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 Ultra. They will share the same design cues – as shown above – including hole-punch front cameras, multiple cameras on the rear, slim bezels and more.

As in past years, the Galaxy S20 will be the base / entry model, but even then it will feature 3 rear cameras which isn’t half bad for an entry-model handset.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Galaxy S20 Ultra will feature a huge 6.9-inch display, hybrid-zoom capabilities upto 100X, and a four camera array that includes a ToF sensor as well.

If they ship the Exynos version in Australia it’s a hard pass for me
