ZTE Axon 20 5G to be launched on Sep.1 2020

Just a few days ago we shared a launch invitation from ZTE signalling that they are set to announce “The World’s first under-display camera smartphone” on September 1. Now they have shared a fun video on Weibo that throws some shade on devices with punch hole or pop-up cameras.

The video shows a smartphone and a lizard of some sort removing flies (and a caterpillar) that are meant to resemble a selfie camera. There is no appearance of their under-display camera but we remain optimistic given it is not visible — but then it is a cartoon and not a real world device.

The ZTE Axon 20 5G is expected to arrive with some high end specs including a quad rear camera setup, a 6.92-inch OLED display (but with only a FHD+ resolution) with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The main feature of the phone of course will be the under-display camera — a 32MP lens.

This will all be supported with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 4,120mAh battery. There is no definite word on the chipset just yet but is expected to be the Snapdragon 765G — a chipset that looks to be set to be one of the more popular chipsets in the second half of 2020.

In only 10 days we will see the ZTE Axon 20 5G and its under-display selfie camera appear on stage / online. You can be sure that we will be keeping a close eye on it and of course making contact with ZTE Australia for any local news.
