As October 8th draws closer it’s time for the annual Google Assistant Developer Day. Oh what? That’s not a thing? Well, it is now. In our COVID distancing world, Google has announced another virtual event, this one focused on developing for Google Assistant.

Registrations are now open for the program, which will kick off with a keynote and include the popular fireside chat as well. This isn’t a consumer event however, it is a developer event to showcase the integration of Assistant across, voice and the web, apps, smart displays and beyond.

The show will kick off at 0300 AEST on 9 October 2020, here’s the program:

  • 3:00 AM – 3:30 AM AEST – Google Assistant Developer Day Keynote
Learn about the newest features that will enable better developer and consumer experiences for Google Assistant. We will be sharing some of the most interesting examples of innovations from our partners and the developer ecosystem.
  • 3:30 AM – 4:00 AM AEST – Connect your Android App to Google Assistant
Learn what’s new with App Actions to enable Google Assistant users to interact with your app more easily via voice. You will also hear from our partners Postmates and Discord about their experience building App Actions.
  • 4:00 AM – 4:15 AM AEST – App Actions Discovery
Learn about all the ways we’re making it easier for users to try your App Actions. Join our Q&A session with MyFitnessPal to learn about their take on discovery.
  • 4:15 AM – 4:45 AM AEST – Building immersive games and experiences for smart displays
Learn about the latest enhancements to the Google Assistant developer platform and how Google is making it easier to build high-quality native experiences. We’ll also hear directly from the CEO of CoolGames, Laurens Rutten, about building the smash hit Guess the Drawing for Google Assistant.
  • 4:45 AM – 5:00 AM AEST – Enhancing the discovery of your Actions on Google Assistant
Learn about new tools to enable you to drive discovery of your Actions, and hear how one of our partners is doing it today.
  • 5:00 AM – 5:15 AM AEST – Fireside Chat with the Google Assistant Developer Relations team
Grab a drink and join us for an informal fireside chat as we answer your burning questions about recent announcements for Google Assistant.
  • 5:15 AM – 5:20 AM AEST – Closing Remarks

The sessions will include an outline of the future vision for Assistant including new announcements and features from the Assistant team and third party developers. There will also be demonstrations of Assistant integration from partners and a live Q&A for developers.

It’s very unclear if “new products” would be a physical device such as the impending Nest Home speaker, which we think is extremely unlikely, or new functionality / service within the Assistant itself, which we think is far more likely.

If you’re interested in attending registration is free and you can sign up at the event page.
