We knew it was just a matter of time. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is no secret with Samsung mentioning it in passing at the first Unpacked event a few weeks ago. At the time there were no specifics of the device given but such is the way these days we were sure they couldn’t be kept secret for too long. Overnight the full specs have leaked along with the price and release date.

After they leaked the full price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 yesterday Winfuture have come through with more information — well, all of the information it seems.

The specs

Starting with the displays — which have been leaked before — the external display will be a 6.2-inch AMOLED 60Hz display with a resolution of 2260 x 816 pixels. This external display covers the entire front of the device this time and has a punch hole in the display for the “selfie camera”.

The internal display will support 120Hz refresh rate and measure 7.6-inches with a resolution of 2208 x 1768 and the foldable OLED panel is covered with “flexible glass”. The large opened display will allow users to have three apps open at a time with the additional functionality of the display being able to be opened and kept to virtually any angle. The hinge itself is expected to be “much better protected” against dust and dirt.

The chipset of the Z Fold 2 will be a top of the line Snapdragon 865+ and will be combined with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Samsung have not skimped out on the camera either with the rear triple camera sporting a 12MP main lens, a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 12MP telephoto lens. The camera will be capable of recording videos of 4K resolution. The selfie camera will be a 10MP lens set inside a punch hole within the display.

Powered by a 4,500mAh battery and support for 25W fast charging along with 11W wireless charging it will launch running Android 10 with their One UI 2.5 skin on top of it. Other notable specs include stereo speakers tuned by AKG, a side mounted fingerprint sensor and will weigh 279grams.

The release date and price

The European Samsung has also accidentally leaked the price and release date with sales commencing on September 18 and pricing starting at £1,799 which we suspect is for the 4G version. The price is less than we saw yesterday but still not a cheap device.

As to what it costs when it lands here who knows but we expect it to be close to that AU$3000-3500 mark. Those who are even looking at buying this will already know the approximate price and will not be put off by it.

It will be interesting to see what Samsung bring in the way of enterprise features for this foldable and with Microsoft about to enter that market of Android foldables they’d better bring something good.
