With a little under two weeks until the Made by Google 2020 ‘Launch night in’ event it seems Google couldn’t keep a lid on the impending Nest Audio Google Assistant-powered smart speaker. Today images of the new device in Google’s chalk and Charcoal colours leaked out.

With a very familiar look and feel, the cloth-clad speaker looks to be a little taller than the original Google Home and will feature a front-facing speaker instead of the 360 speaker configuration of the original. The speaker quality is rumoured to sit somewhere between the original Google Home and the larger Google Home Max.

While not visible we’re expecting Google’s signature touch controls at the top with volume up, down on the left and right and likely a multi-purpose control sensor in the middle. Google’s own video teaser of the product also hinted at it being portable with an inbuilt battery.

An earlier FCC listing didn’t include frequencies for Soli so our dream of gesture control of Google’s smart speaker is still not here.
