We’ve been seeing details about it off and on for some time, now the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) is official. Not only did Samsung announce the device’s release last night, but we’ve also had confirmation that the phone is coming to Australia.

Samsung’s approach to the device was to offer a premium flagship smartphone that includes innovations Galaxy fans told us they love most, made available at an accessible price point, starting at $1,149.00 for 5G. By giving users the best possible camera (at a price point of course), big battery, great speed, expandable storage and 5G options that have been delivered.

Let’s take a closer look at the specs of the Galaxy S20 FE.

The screen is a 6.5″ flat Super AMOLED screen running 1028 x 2400 resolution at 407PPI and 120Hz refresh. It weighs 190 grams, is IP68 rated and has a multi-camera array built in. This includes:

  • 32MP Selfie Camera F2.2 aperture
  • Rear 12MP Ultra Wide Camera F2.2
  • 12MP Wide-angle Camera F1.8
  • 8MP Telephoto Camera F2.4

This is all powered by an SD865, Adreno 650 and options of either 128GB or 256GB storage sporting 6GB or 8GB of ram respectively. The 4,500mAh battery can be boosted by either wired (QC2.0) or wireless fast charging to ensure you and your phone can go all day.

The rest of the specs are what the market expects from phones these days with a full suite of connectivity including NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6. It is, as they say, for the fans with the specs that Samsung die-hards have asked for and at a more affordable price point.

Local availability starts in a range of colours (Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud White and Cloud Navy) tomorrow with pre-orders — which include a set of Galaxy Buds — via the Samsung Australia site and major retail chains. The device will be on sale to the general public from Friday the 9th of October. Finally, the cost… A 4G version will cost you $999.00 and the 5G will set you back $1149.00.

What is it about the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition that has caught your attention or turned you away?

Does the 5g come with the snapdragon or exy?

I think the 5g version has the snapdragon .

Good pricing but a bit of a kick in the guts for those who already bought an S20 variant with Exynos

very true. I was holding off on replacing my wifes S8 which had ailing battery and some burn in on the screen because stuff like the S10E (nice size) and various S20 models that did have generous battery were hampered by the exynos current gen. then it literally got dropped on a rock and I realised that the S20 FE was a different beast. she will have to get used to the fact its a phablet form factor but for the battery size, 120hz screen and SD chip thats an OK trade off. I agree it sucks for folks who… Read more »

The FE looks like a pretty good value package now that we get options for the better 865 chipset , but being a fan edition , i had hoped to see a 3.5 mm headphone jack , alas .

How much zoom does it have?

If i remember correctly 3x .
Thats 3x optical , and whatever you can out of it in digital …..i`m thinking 10 x ?

they labelled it as having quote unquote SpaceZoom which I think entails not pixel binning on one of those sensors and then extrapolating with the other sensors? i know its 8MP telephoto at fixed 3X Zoom 12MP Wide 12MP standard aspect/zoom on the back of the phone but i have no clue if all of those sensors are binned down from a higher MP rating, my guess is the 8MP Zoom one is NOT pixel binned and is a true 8MP because they’ve found over time that the zoom sensors cant cope without enough light to split between X number… Read more »
