Samsung brought some decent phones to the market this year without actually hitting the ball out of the park with any of them (so far — the FE is promising). According to rumours they are looking to go bigger earlier next year with the Galaxy S21 series rumoured to be launching in January.

Overnight 91Mobiles in combination with leaker Ishan Agarwal, who both have a decent track record of revealing phone details early has given us specs for what will be Samsung’s S21 flagship. Internally known as O3 the Ultra will have the model number SM-G998U and have some impressive hardware.

Just like this year when they threw all the numbers at the S20 Ultra Samsung are doing the same with the S21 Ultra with it set to arrive with a massive 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with some rumours suggesting it will support a refresh rate up to 144Hz — hopefully it will allow for full screen resolution to be used at whatever refresh rate you decide one, they are still the only manufacturer to include that frustrating limitation.

Inside we expect to see either a Snapdragon 875 or an Exynos 2100 chipset (region/market specific of course) supported by 12GB of RAM. Camera-wise it will apparently arrive with a 108MP rear main camera with 16MP ultrawide and 12MP telephoto lenses. The front facing selfie camera is expected to be 40MP as well.

The new phone will support 65W fast charging of its 5,000mAh battery — a huge improvement over the relatively slow charging in their 2020 phones.

Of course it is still just October so take these rumours with the usual grain of salt but it is fair to say that some of these leaks can be easily deduced based on Samsung’s history of devices. We know that Samsung love to throw all the numbers at their flagship so there is no doubt that these are possibly true.

Launching in January is a strange time but we look forward to checking out Samsung’s premium and ultra-premium offerings.
