A lot of water has passed under the bridge since we covered the release of the Suunto 7 Smartwatch and over the year instead of focusing on delivering new products Suunto have instead focused on steadily releasing updates to the Suunto 7, bringing new features that you would normally have to buy a new watch to experience.

For a quick recap, the Suunto 7 Sportswatch runs on Wear OS and is powered by the now last generation Snapdragon Wear 3100. On top of the Wear OS experience Suunto have brought many sports and fitness tracking features to the smartwatch experience including over 70 different sports modes and a battery life of 12 hours while in continuous GPS tracking mode.

The watch includes the capability for full colour offline outdoor maps with Suunto Heatmaps to follow your best training routes — all from the watch itself — leave your phone at home! Waterproof and dustproof, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass.

Until now the Suunto 7 would have set you back $799 from Suunto.com and JB Hi-Fi but now the price has been slashed to just $599.

If you are serious about your sports tracking but don’t want to give up the features that a fully fledged smartwatch provides then the Suunto 7 could be just what you are after. Now that it is much more affordable it is definitely worth consideration.
