In what is a bittersweet moment for those of us who don’t live in a country where Google has bothered to launch Stadia, the news today that Stadia will sooner be running on select Google TV and Android TV hardware is still exciting. With this expansion of compatible hardware, it might signal that Google isn’t going to simply abandon the Stadia platform.
While Google had already announced that Staia would come to the CHromecast with Google TV, it,s great to see more devices in the list:
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Nvidia® Shield TV
- Nvidia® Shield TV Pro
- Xiaomi® Mi Box 3 and Mi Box 4
- Hisense® Android Smart TVs (U7G, U8G, U9G)
- Philips® 8215, 8505, and OLED 935/805 Series Android TVs
- OnnFHD Streaming Stick and UHD Streaming Device (USA Only)
It’s wholly unsurprising to seethe NVIDIA shield in that list, as the unofficial king and powerhouse of the ANdroid TV sphere it would have been a shocking admission. However, if your device is;t on that list then there is hope, using the Experimental TV option in Stadia you may be able to get the client working on other devices.
While Stadia remains US-centric Google has no chance of gaining a reasonable global mind share, let alone market share. And with NVIDIA and Amazon not to mention many others having strong alternatives in active development Google’s lack of vision in roll-out remains as confusing here as it does whenever they do it.
Personally I think it’s all over for stadia they needed to tackle this roll out a lot quicker and be more aggressive with game titles and alike. By the time google are up to scratch apple will join the fray lol
