Earlier this year, I spent some time reviewing the ECOVACS DEEBOT NEO, and it was a great offering. The most significant issues I see with these devices is they can’t get to corners, and some of the navigation hardware prevents them from getting under furniture.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT X2 OMNI, announced late last week at IFA, addresses both of these issues. Let’s start with the navigation, as the ECOVACS release statement covers it perfectly:

ECOVACS successfully integrated its newly-developed Semi-Solid-State Lidar directly into the structure of the robot. This is an important technological advancement which ultimately means a lower height to get into more places (and corners) than ever before.

The second issue I’ve had with robot vacs is their circular shape, preventing them from getting into corners of rooms. The ECOVACS DEEBOT X2 OMNI is a near (slightly rounded corners) square shape. This reduces the space that the device can’t get into significantly and, in my eyes, makes it a far more viable device to clean your home vs maintaining the cleanliness of your home.

The DEEBOT X2 OMNI has a remarkable suction power of 8,000 pa, making it up to 60 per cent more powerful than its predecessor. That’s just part of the story, though, with increased automation, including mopping pads being automatically cleaned and dried to ensure you’re actually cleaning your floor, not just spreading old dirt around.

For those who are particularly time-poor, other automation — with the base station — can also empty the dust container. It’s also far more efficient in its cleaning routines, utilising machine learning to ensure that the travel time for cleaning is minimised; improving time and energy efficiency.

We’re looking forward to taking a closer look once review units become available.
