At this year’s Made by Google event, the Nest team unveiled new simplified storage plans for Nest security cameras. The new two-tier subscriptions are now cheaper and have support for multiple cameras – no more paying per device.

For those not aware, the original Nest Aware subscriptions were charged per device and could add up if you hade multiple cameras even if they were charged at a reduced rate after the first device, the subscriptions also had multiple recorded history lengths from 5 days to 30 days.

The new plans offer a single price for all of your Nest cameras and include either 30 or 60 days intermittent or continuous backup. This makes the new Nest Aware subscription quite compelling and one of the more competitive on the Australian market at least, especially if you have multiple cameras.

Here’s a complete list of all of the Nest Aware markets and their associated pricing.

The changes to the new Nest Aware aren’t just in the pricing, however. Google has introduced the ability for the Nest Cams to start recording based on detected motion or sound. This is the basis of the new 30-day event history tier. As such you will only get a recording when an event is triggered. If you want the old 24/7 recording you’ll need to subscribe to Nest Aware Plus.

Google is also going to move all of the command and control for the Nest Aware service into a new ‘Home Feed’ in the Google Home app. From there you’ll be able to manage your recordings and monitor your cameras. Unfortunately, while the new NEst Hub Max has a Nest camera in it recording for the Hub Max will only be available in the USA for now.
