MicroSD cards are making somewhat of a comeback on Android. With the launch of Android One for emerging markets, Google has acknowledged that in areas where data connectivity is less than ideal, information is often passed around on these often quite large capacity pieces of plastic and silicon. Now an American company has announced the largest capacity microSD card available at Computex – but before you start adding it to your Christmas list – it’s going to be expensive.
The company, Microdia, a California-based company will release the ‘Xtra Elite’ card in July with a US$1,000 price tag (approximately AU$1,285) or to look at it another way US$1.95 per GB – in a world where you regularly pay around AU$1 per GB for a lower end USB drive or even less for some microSD Cards.
The card will have fast access times, with Microdia that the card will feature an Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus capable of 300MBps data transfer rates. The Xtra Elite will use Secure Digital v4.0, necessitating an additional row of pins below the standard ones – but will otherwise look like a standard microSD card.

Nice of Google to finally admit that one point of complaint which users of Android had made regarding the removal of microSD, was actually on the money.
As for this Microdia card, how many devices actually support SD4.0, and how many devices actually support cards with larger than 128GB capacity?
