Following on from the initial announcement at MWC and followups at the Game Developer Conference, HTC rolled out their Vive VR platform to developers a couple of months ago. But developers and teasers don’t make a viable platform and with a promised end of year consumer launch planned, it’s time to ramp it up and take the show on the road, and that’s exactly what HTC is doing.

HTC has kicked off a world tour of the HTC Vive, announcing the HTC Vive World Tour. While the initial dates would speak of a seriously skewed view of the word ‘World, HTC has followed up the initial dates with a disclaimer saying ‘tour dates and locations are subject to change‘ and promising to update their blog. So where is the Vive going on tour over the next few months?

  • July 9-12, Island St & 6th Ave, San Diego, CA, USA
  • July 17-19, Forecastle Festival [Invite Only], Louisville, KY, USA
  • July 21-23, Navy Pier, Chicago, IL, USA
  • July 25-28, specific location TBD, Kansas City, KS, USA
  • August 2-8, The International, Seattle, WA, USA
  • August 5-9, Gamescom, Cologne, Germany
  • August 13-16, specific location TBD, San Francisco, CA, USA
  • August 20-23, specific location TBD, Portland, OR, USA
  • August 28-31, PAX Prime, Seattle, WA, USA
  • September 4-9, IFA, Berlin, Germany
  • October 28-November 1, Paris Games Week, Paris, France

We might get to see the Vive at IFA if we’re lucky, but we have also reached out to HTC Australia to see if the headset will be arriving here in Australia.

I tried the Vive when it was announced at Mobile World Congress, and let me say it was the most stunning demonstration I’ve seen to date, I want more. If you haven’t read the hands-on I wrote after using the Vive, it’s worth a look.

The Vive tour is currently open at San Diego Comic-Con in the US where it’s seeing massive queues to get in to try it out. You can follow the HTC Vive crew on twitter at @HTCVive and hold tight, we’ll be sure to update if there’s any information on when you can try the Vive in Australia.
