There’s a lot of advances in automotive technology every year, but who can afford to upgrade their car every year? The team at UonMap have been hard at work creating a device called CarDroid, a “plug in” Android device to make your vehicle smarter.
With their own Emergency Situation Notification and Reconstruction (ESNaR) Technology, the CarDroid smarts don’t just end with notification (including location) in the event of an accident but stretches far further. It can notify you of unexpected movement in your vehicle, impact detection (like when someone backs into your car in the carpark), it can assist in reconstruction of accidents using the gyroscopic sensors, locate your vehicle via GPS and notify about driver behaviour.

At this time they’re planning to ship in April next year and it seems as though it may be a worthwhile investment if you’ve got kids who are just learning to drive or you’d like to know your loved ones are ok.

They ever implied that they love them. Nothing wrong with posting good concepts projects though.
They control the content, they post what they like! So posting them = liking them.
This concept isn’t new. Do a google for obd2 gps tracker, you’ll find a lot of this product is ready covered off by existing products on the market.
The only ‘new’ concept in here is the accelerometer to pickup hard takeoff/breaking.
Existing products on the market use GPS for speed alerts over a xyz and mobile connection for tracking/stats etc.

Yeah OBD2 modules have been used for ages to track fleets etc. You can see when the car starts/stops, speed, location, errors spat out by the computer. They have a internal battery and can even tell you when they are unplugged (to avoid tracking) Depending on the car, some can even get the odometer reading for service alerting, temp of the engine, throttle position. basically anything you can get over the OBD2 port. We get good feedback from readers on posts relating to Kickstarter projects that we’ve reported on previously and on that feedback we continue to seek them out and inform our readers. If you’re not a fan, that’s fine, but there are plenty of people who are.
Just an observation that a kickstarter article pops up every month or so. Nothing cynical about it!
